VIENNA, Oct 25, 2008 - Tanja and Bertie's big day started out mostly cloudy, with temperatures in the 40s even in early afternoon. The neighborhood around the Kinsky Palace (far right), where the wedding ceremony was to take place, is surrounded by ancient churches. The palace is a stone throw away from the Hofburg Palace, home of the imperial family at the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Inside the elegant baroque-style Kinsky Palace, however, where the wedding ceremony was to take place, everything was bright and sunny. The place looked every bit as beautiful as any royal residence I have seen across Europe. The domed chamber in which the wedding ceremony took place was similarly beautiful (two left shots). The arrival of the bride and the groom (right) was accompanied by the traditional wedding march, played by an excellent string quartet (middle right). The official who conducted the wedding proceedings (in black robe - left) spoke in German. The woman behind him translated into English. The official said noted that this was a very international wedding. The guests in attendance had come from as far away as the U.S. and Canada, as well as from Britain, Russia, Switzerland, Spain, Serbia, Poland... He then apologized in case he had inadvertently neglected to mention a country some guest were from. :-) At the end of the ceremony, the bride and the groom signed the marriage papers, as did the two witnesses, the bride's sister and the groom's best man. The ceremony concluded with another beautiful performance by the string quartet... All the while, the wonderful string quartet were playing classical pieces, although this time in an empty dome chamber... October 25, 2008, 01:21 AM PDT; Time: 00:17 mins The room in which the reception was taking place was once heated by the ornate tiled stoves, like the one shown above right. After about an hour or so, most of the guests boarded a bus (above) to be taken to Grinzing, a charming old part of Vienna nestled among the hilltop vineyard, where the dinner and the party were to take place.
